You may enter a conic section as a quadratic equation in x and y. Prior defined variables (e. g., numbers, points, vectors) can be used within the conic’s equation.

Note: The conic section’s name can be entered at the beginning of the input, followed by a colon.

Examples

Conic section Input
Ellipse ell ell: 9 x^2 + 16 y^2 = 144
Hyperbola hyp hyp: 9 x^2 – 16 y^2 = 144
Parabola par par: y^2 = 4 x
Circle c1 c1: x^2 + y^2 = 25
Circle c2 c2: (x – 5)^2 + (y + 2)^2 = 25
Note: If you define two parameters a = 4 and b = 3 in advance, you may enter for example an ellipse as ell: b^2 x^2 + a^2 y^2 = a^2 b^2.
