Conic sections
From GeoGebra Manual
You may enter a conic section as a quadratic equation in x and y. Prior defined variables (e.g. numbers, points, vectors) can be used within the conic’s equation.
Note: The conic section’s name can be entered at the beginning of the input, followed by a colon.
Examples
Conic section | Input |
---|---|
Ellipse ell | ell: 9 x^2 + 16 y^2 = 144 |
Hyperbola hyp | hyp: 9 x^2 – 16 y^2 = 144 |
Parabola par | par: y^2 = 4 x |
Circle c1 | c1: x^2 + y^2 = 25 |
Circle c2 | c2: (x – 5)^2 + (y + 2)^2 = 25 |
Note: If you define two parameters a = 4 and b = 3 in advance, you may enter for example an ellipse as
ell: b^2 x^2 + a^2 y^2 = a^2 b^2
.
