People

The new working committee of the GeoGebra Institute of Kathmandu was formed on May 7, 2012. Ramesh Prasad Awasthi and Mr. Shree Prasad Ghimire, Council for Mathematics Education Nepal, presented a short overview of GeoGebra to the new members. The eleven member GeoGebra committee was formed under the chairmanship of Mr. Tika Ram Pokhrel, assistant professor, School of Education, University of Kathmandu, Nepal.

Training and Support

In April 22, 2012, a one-day workshop program was organized at The Hotel Kantipur situated by the scenic lakeside Pokhara, one of the big cities other than kathmandu. The 48 participants who consisted mainly of mathematics teachers and some enthusiastic students were introduced about GeoGebra. An introductory program aimed for the secondary level teachers of mathematics was held on the third of June, 2012 at Chitawan district, which is also outside of the capital city. About 55 participants were participated in the training. Similar programs were also organized in June 4, 2012 at Gorkha district, in July 29, 2012 at the Dhading district, again in October 10, 2012 at Dhading district, and on October 13, 2012 at Sindhuligadhi district

Development and Sharing

A one-day interactive program on the use of GeoGebra was held on October 11, 2012, in the premises of Bageswori Higher Secondary School, Bhaktapur. The program was organized by the Council for Mathematics Education (Bhaktapur Branch). Almost 60 mathematics teachers participated in the program. The participants pointed out the need to develop a GeoGebra tutorial covering the current syllabus of mathematics in various school levels. In this program Prof. Dr. Madan Man Shrestha, chairman of the Council of mathematics Education, Nepal and Mr. Dandapani Sharma, officer at the Curriculum Development Center, Nepal also expressed their views regarding the importance of the GeoGebra for teaching and learning process of mathematics.


Research and Collaboration

A research study about critical thinking and the role of GeoGebra has been conducted by Tika Ram Pokharel, assistant professor of Kathmandu University. Once the study will be finished, a manuscript about research result will be submitted in an appropriate journal.
