GeoGebra Workshop Materials Translation

Thank you for your interest in translating workshop materials for GeoGebra to your language! Please note that these materials have also been put together in the form of the book Introduction to GeoGebra which you might want to translate in parallel.

Information about the workshop materials

This series of GeoGebra introductory workshops consists of 8 workshop sessions (3 hours long each) and provides corresponding handouts for participants. The workshop sessions are connected to each other and are supposed to be given in the suggested order so as to facilitate the introduction of GeoGebra for newcomers as much as possible. Please see file PRESENTER-overview to get detailed information about the activities of each workshop session.

In the beginning of the first workshop presenters need to distribute the folder GeoGebra_WS_Files to all workshop participants. It contains GeoGebra files as well as dynamic worksheets which are referred to in the participant handouts. Their purpose is to present a variety of application possibilities of GeoGebra for different math content topics as well as to familiarize participants with different ways of integrating GeoGebra into everyday teaching (e.g. discovery learning, combination of printable instructions with GeoGebra activities).

Additionally we provide two presentations (for workshops 1 and 6) which might help presenters to do a general GeoGebra introduction in the beginning and to talk about quality issues of dynamic worksheet in a later workshop.

Download the workshop materials

Please download the presenter package of the workshop materials. Unzip the downloaded files to your computer to get the following folders/files:

  • folder handouts: contains handouts for eight successive GeoGebra workshops in both .pdf and .doc format
  • folder GeoGebra_WS_files: contains GeoGebra files and dynamic worksheets for participants
  • folder presentations: contains two presentations that cover a general GeoGebra introduction and quality issues of dynamic worksheets
  • file PRESENTER-overview: contains descriptions of activities, time frames for each workshop, and additional information about the structure of workshop sessions for presenters

Translation of the workshop materials

Translate the workshop handouts

  • Open folder handouts and delete the English .pdf files. We will create pdf files of your translation later on.
  • Rename the doc files so that the file name shows the abbreviation of your language (e.g., GeoGebra_WS_1_DE.doc for German; GeoGebra_WS_1_NO.doc for Norwegian)
  • Please translate the .doc files from English to your language using MS Word or Open Office.

Note: You are welcome to modify the workshop handouts as well as presentations to adapt them to the needs of local teachers!

Translate the dynamic worksheets

Open folder GeoGebra_WS_files which contains

  • dynamic worksheets (.html)
  • corresponding GeoGebra constructions (.ggb)
  • pictures (.png)

Translating GeoGebra files(.ggb)

Open the GeoGebra construction files (.ggb) in GeoGebra and translate labels, text,... if necessary.

Note: Do not change the size of the GeoGebra window in order to maintain the layout of dynamic worksheets!

Make sure the GeoGebra user interface is in your language before saving the files.

Note: DO NOT change the file names of the GeoGebra constructions in order to maintain the functionality of the dynamic worksheets!

Translating the worksheet (.html)

Open the dynamic worksheet (.html) file in any html editor (e.g., NVU, MS Word, OpenOffice). Translate the text but DO NOT delete the little Java icon. It is a place holder for the interactive applet and needs to stay on the html page.

Submitting your Translation

After finishing your translation please save your file in .doc format and send it to translation@geogebra.org via e-mail.
