IFactor Command

IFactor[ <Polynomial> ]
Factors over the irrationals.
Example:
IFactor[x^2 + x - 1] gives \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( x + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( x + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}

CAS Syntax

IFactor[ <Expression> ]
Factors over the irrationals.
Example:
IFactor[x^2 + x - 1] returns \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( x + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( x + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}
IFactor[ <Expression>, <Variable> ]
Factors over the irrationals with respect to a given variable.
Example:
IFactor[a^2 + a - 1, a] returns \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( a + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( a + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}
