IFactor Command

IFactor( <Polynomial> )
Factors over the irrationals.
Example:
IFactor(x^2 + x - 1) gives \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( x + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( x + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}

CAS Syntax

IFactor( <Expression> )
Factors over the irrationals.
Example:
IFactor(x^2 + x - 1) returns \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( x + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( x + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}
IFactor( <Expression>, <Variable> )
Factors over the irrationals with respect to a given variable.
Example:
IFactor(a^2 + a - 1, a) returns \mathrm{\mathsf{ \left( a + \frac{-\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) \left( a + \frac{\sqrt{5} + 1}{2} \right) }}
