The GeoGebra Institute of Andalucia (Spanish acronym: IGA) was set up in October 2009, with the authorisation of Markus Hohenwarter. The GeoGebra Institute of Andalusia was set up by the THALES Andalusian Society of Mathematics Teachers (Spanish acronym: SAEM THALES), whose website is . The website, located at , is up and running and more content is gradually being added.
First GeoGebra Meeting in Andalucia
Held in Córdoba from 12-14 March 2010, and attended by 150 teachers. The event was jointly organised by the University of Córdoba, SAEM THALES and the Córdoba Teachers’ Centre – run by the Regional Department of Education –, with the sponsorship of the Andalusian Regional Government’s Department of Economy, Innovation and Science. 13th Annual Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics Organised by SAEM THALES; held in Córdoba, from 10-12 September, and subtitled “Mathematics for observing and doing”. This event attracted over 250 participants. In one of the plenary sessions, the conference was addressed by Markus Hohenwarter on the subject of GeoGebra and its community. The organisers also offered a workshop on GeoGebra entitled “A mathematical vision of our reality”.
Distance training course Under the title “GeoGebra, ICT and innovation in mathematics teaching”, a 40-hour distance training course is being developed, with Ricardo Barroso Campos and José Mª Gavilán Izquierdo of the University of Seville acting as course tutors. This course is part of the SAEM THALES Mathematics 2010 distance training programme.
