GeoGebra 4.0 Release

GeoGebra 4.0 has been released and the WebStart version can be run from here: http://www.geogebra.org/webstart

The GeoGebra 3.2 WebStart link will remain there for a while too.

Offline installers for GeoGebra 4.0 will be made available in due course.

Our new material-sharing platform is ready for use, try it yourself! The old GeoGebraWiki and all files uploaded to the GeoGebra Upload Manager will remain online as an archive.

For those of you who have already been using GeoGebra, the following features have been added recently:

  • the ability to edit worksheets in your browser and store your changes without having to re-upload your files
  • the ability to copy a material for translation or to enhance materials uploaded by other users
  • files from GeoGebra 3.2 are now displayed properly

Development News

The developers met in person for the first time at the conference on 29-31 Aug 2011 at The 2nd International GeoGebra Conference Hagenberg near Linz, Austria. They identified the following possible areas to investigate and work on over the next few years:

  • GeoGebra Web refactoring: one code base
  • 3D algorithms for parametric surfaces, intersecting curves
  • 3D input devices: eg Kinect, head-tracking with a webcam
  • Non-Euclidian view for spherical / hyperbolic geometry: using 3D code
  • Barycentric coordinates, triangle centers
  • Interactive Whiteboard Improvements
  • Making GeoGebra run faster and identifying bugs more quickly
  • Turning a locus into an Implicit Curve automatically
  • Proving & symbolic computations
  • USB Logging eg Vernier Go!Motion, Kinect, Phoenix
  • Equation Editor: interface & spreadsheet
  • Moodle: connection to GeoGebra, exercises
  • Spreadsheet / Statistics enhancements
  • Online translation (instead of Attesoro)
  • Python Scripting
